Carter Godwin Woodson, shortly named Carter G. Woodson, was an American historical writer wrote The Mis-Education of the Negro. He was a journalist, author, and founder of the Association for the Study Of African American Life and History. He was one of the earlier scholars who looked into the history of African Americans’ lives and explored their struggles. 

Carter was the second African-American who got the degree of P.H.D. from Harvard University after W.E.B. Du Bois. There was a time when Carter was known as the father of African-Americans history. He offered his services as a teacher, school administrator, and Dean of the college. 

Carter’s family was poor, and his parents were illiterate. His sister was a teacher, a poetess, and an activist. Woodson’s father said they were happy because they got freed no matter if they were rich or poor. His father supported the family by earning moving as a carpenter and a farmer.
